Historical & Cultural Program Volunteers


If you love historical sites and you enjoy working alongside others in the community, or even independently, this program is for you! Volunteers may work across twelve historic and cultural places managed by the parks and recreation department. Skills, interests and tasks may include but are not limited to: documenting conditions of important places, cleaning/trash pick up, assisting with masonry repairs at a cemetery, landscaping, maintaining flower beds, providing educational outreach, and performing minor to major preservation repairs. 

The twelve resources/sites include: 

Historic Districts 

  • Chautauqua Park  
  • Columbia Cemetery  
  • Downtown Boulder-Pearl Street Mall  


  • Harbeck-Bergheim House  
  • Glen Huntington Band Shell  
  • Fire Station No. 02 (aka the Pottery Lab) 
  • Roney House 
  • Platt Farmhouse  

Rolling stock (volunteers are directed to learn more from the Colorado Railroad Museum where each are located, and may sign up on the website by clicking the link above for opportunities) 

  • Colorado & Northwestern Railroad Locomotive No. 30  
  • Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Caboose No. 04990  
  • Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Coach No. 280 

Archeological Site 

  • Boyd Smelter Site  
Time Commitment:

Volunteer's may commit their time at a variety of levels, some volunteer for one hour and others join recuring programs. Court ordered community service is also accepted for these places.
