Fiber Fest 2019  - Boulder Main Library

Saturday, 10 August 2019 @ 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM

Programs and Events  -  All Ages

Assist at various Fiber Fest 2019 stations such as weaving, spinning, crochet, knitting, indigo dyeing. We anticipate all ages to participate. We'll do our best to pair you with a fiber station that fits your background. We may ask volunteers to learn new skills to mentor families at this event or rotate volunteers at particularly busy stations. Teens are welcome to volunteer. Youth under 12 require adult volunteer supervision. While fiber arts experience isn't required, it will be helpful to be comfortable mentoring families with new skills. Basic skills needed: using scissors or a nail clipper. More advanced skills will be taught at the Fiber Fest volunteer training on Thursday, August 8, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in BLDG61 makerspace. We're planning to have open-sided canopies, tables and chairs for each station. There are a few stations that will use the shade of the trees, such as the animal station with sheep and other fiber animals. Weather permitting, we'll be in the Civic Park between the Main Library and Municipal Building. If there is severe weather, we will move indoors to the Main Boulder Library. We recommend volunteers park near the St. Julien at 10th and Walnut (free parking on Saturday) to leave parking spaces open for festival attendees. This event was inspired by celebrating Schacht Spindle Company's 50th anniversary. Schacht and the Boulder Library Foundation sponsor this event. Schacht's sponsorship and the dozens of fiber volunteers help make this event possible!

Volunteer Notes

Please bring a water bottle (filling stations inside the library and outside by the playground), hat, sunscreen and clothes appropriate for the weather. We will have a break room indoors if the event is outside. Please be sure to notify the people at your station that you need a break and return in a prompt fashion. If your shift ends at noon, we ask that you stay long enough to train the afternoon shift, if possible. If you shift starts at noon, we ask that you come 10 minutes early for training handoff, if possible. We couldn't make the shifts overlap in our system without causing other scheduling conflicts for volunteers who will join us for the whole day!
