One-Day Volunteer Project - Adults

Join City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks as we host the first of what we hope will be many more trail “micro-engagements” to support diversity, equity and inclusion in the outdoors! This gender-inclusive event will help construct a new, sustainable reroute of the Mesa and Fern Canyon trail to improve trail sustainability and protect valuable resources in the area. Work will consist of helping construct new trail while transporting soils and restoring old trail. This is a moderately difficult project with a 2 mile, round trip hike to the project location. The project will involve hiking over uneven terrain, bending, lifting up to 25lbs, and using general hand tools. OSMP will provide lunch, extra water, gloves and safety gear. Further details regarding meeting location and day of logistics will be emailed to all volunteers 1 week prior to the event. What volunteers will need for the day: --Two quarts of water or camel packs. --Dress in layers. --Work gloves. --Sturdy boots (No lightweight shoes, or “five-finger” types of shoes.) --Long pants. --Rain jacket. --A long sleeved T-shirt. --Personal first aid kit, if you have one (OSMP will have a group first aid kit.) --Backpack to carry personal items. --Sunglasses, hat and sunscreen. --Clothing appropriate for weather conditions. Dress appropriately for Colorado weather and to work in an outdoor setting off trail. If volunteers come unprepared, you will not be allowed on the project site.
