Programs and Events

Fiber Fest Volunteer Training will introduce you to the Fiber Fest planning team and volunteers. Please see the link below to sign up to Volunteer! Teens are welcome to volunteer. Youth under 12 require adult volunteer supervision. While fiber arts experience isn't required, it will be helpful to be comfortable mentoring families with new skills. Basic skills needed: using scissors or a nail clipper. More advanced skills will be taught at the Fiber Fest volunteer training on Thursday, August 1, 4:30-6 p.m. in BLDG61 makerspace. You can learn (or teach) basic skills for weaving, spinning, crochet, knitting, indigo dyeing and preparing fiber for felting or spinning. Feel free to bring the tools you plan to use. We will provide LadyBug spinning wheels, Cricket and School Looms, drop spindles as well as knitting, crochet, pom pom making and a group weaving experience. In addition to hands-on and demo fiber stations, we will have a volunteer role as film greeter for a movie, Woven Lives, shown in the Canyon Theater. We'll do our best to pair you with a fiber station that fits your background. We may ask volunteers to learn new skills to mentor families at this event or rotate volunteers at particularly busy stations.
