Chautauqua History Hike

 09/28/2021  |  04:00 PM - 07:00 PM
  Chautauqua Ranger Cottage

Local History - Adults

Join Naturalist Debbie Cushman to learn about the fascinating history of Chautauqua Park and its beginning as a National Historic Landmark in Boulder. We will hike through the park past the old Bachelder Ranch house, the auditorium and many original cottages as well as the site of a wildlife zoo that once stood near the McClintock Trail! We will continue up to the Woods Quarry and return on the Mesa trail and through the Chautauqua Meadow passing the bluebell shelter as well as the site of the old CCC barracks and the ski area that sported a rope tow powered by a WWII truck engine! This is a 3.5 mile moderate hike with 800 feet of elevation gain. (Warning: Your hike leader is not a speedy hiker!) Please come with sturdy hiking shoes, a liter of water, and a snack if desired. Consider rain gear if it looks like inclement weather.
