One-Day Volunteer Project - Trails - Adults

What: Overhang Rock Climbing Access Trail Improvements Project Site: Overhang Rock Climbing Access Trail When: 10a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Saturday August 22th, 2020 Registration Site: Please hike to meet OSMP Trails Staff at the Overhang Rock Climbing Access Trail. Please plan to hike from NCAR or from Devil's Thumb neighborhood access point. Once at the junction of Mesa Trail and Bear Canyon, hike West on Bear Canyon Trail for approximately 1/2 mile. Overhang Rock will be upslope to the South. PROJECT Volunteers will be constructing and delineating a more direct, sustainable approach to the crag while also installing fencing and doing some active restoration to keep climbers on the trail. PROJECT DIFFICULTY - STRENUOUS There is a 4 mile, round trip hike to and from the project site. Project will involve hiking over uneven terrain, bending, lifting up to 50lbs, and using general hand tools. PREPARATION FOR THE DAY **Two quarts of water or camel packs.** **Snacks & lunch for the day** **Work gloves.** **Face Covering** **Sunglasses or other eye protection ** --Sturdy boots (No lightweight shoes, or “five-finger” types of shoes.) --Long pants. --Rain jacket. --A long sleeved T-shirt. --Personal first aid kit, if you have one (OSMP will have a group first aid kit.) --Backpack to carry personal items. --Hat and sunscreen. --Clothing appropriate for weather conditions. ** Due to the ongoing Coronavirus, OSMP WILL NOT provide personal protective gear (PPE), including face coverings, extra water or food for this event.
