Your Land

Join OSMP naturalist Jenny Natapow on a wild winter adventure. Not all birds fly south for the winter and not all mammals hibernate. We will discover who stays and what their strategies are for survival. Children will discover for themselves who inhabits Boulder’s foothills in winter and how they adapt to endure the cold. We will hike into the ponderosa pine forest looking for tracks and signs and drop down into Gregory Canyon where we will ponder and play by the creek. This is a 2.5 hour excursion that includes a 1.25 mile hike (with a ½ mile hike up hill) hands on learning, discovery, and nature play. Please bring strap-on traction for footwear (e.g. micro-spikes or Yak-tracks) since the trail may be very slick and icy. Every hike in the monthly Ranger Paula Wild Adventure series focuses on a different exciting topic. Attend two of these programs and kids are well on their way to completing their Ranger Paula Passport and earning a patch for their backpacks. To receive your patch, submit a completed passport to the Ranger Cottage and take the Ranger Paula Oath of Stewardship! Please bring water, warm clothes and lunch on the hikes.
