Escape to White Rocks

 09/03/2020  |  07:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  White Rocks/Weiser  |  Registration Required

Your Land

Put on your mask AND bring your commitment to a minimum 6 ft social distance for a nature fix with a small group of safety-conscious folks at White Rocks. Enjoy an easy 2-mile hike to see an area so fragile and precious that it is closed to visitation most of the year. This four-hour-plus outing will include a geology story as seen in the rocks, an exploration of several microhabitats and a cliff-top rest stop with views of mountains and plains. Join volunteer naturalist Bev Halwa in this unique natural area, home to Ricky Weiser for many years. Bring water and food as well as binoculars and sun, rain and mosquito protection. Long pants, gaiters for cheat grass, and sturdy boots for walking off-trail are recommended. If you have been on a White Rocks hike before, please let others who have not had a turn register first. Due to the Covid-19 virus, we are stressing safety protocols for all hike participants. Group sizes will be limited to 10 people, and you must register beforehand to attend. Participants will also need to complete a brief online training slide show (see below) before registration is allowed. The slide show explains our expectations for social distancing, facial coverings and other important measures to keep you and other participants safe. If you have not yet taken the required “OSMP COVID-19 Safety Protocol for Programs," you will be automatically directed to take that course when you log in to register. Click “Start” to go to the course page and scroll down to click “Start” again to begin the course. It should take about 5 minutes to complete. When you’ve read and clicked through ALL of the course pages using the “Next” button, you will be brought back to the general “Courses” page. Return to this registration web page, and click the Registration link and click “Register” again to be added to the roster.
