This time of year food is mostly all that bears are thinking about as they stay busy putting on enough fat to last through the winter. Hear all about the Black Bears that live in the Boulder area and how they get ready for their long winter sleep. We’ll look for bear sign and hear about the physiology and behavior of these fascinating animals (they are not as dangerous as some people think) on an easy/moderate hike with OSMP naturalist Betty Naughton.

CancelI have been a part-time staff naturalist with OSMP for about 15 years. I am fascinated by all aspects of nature - wildlife, plants, their adaptations, interactions, and ecosystems. I love to share about all that is here in our amazing Open Space and Mountain Parks. Bears, mountain lions and bats are some of my favorites because I used to be fearful of them. As I learned more I realized they were not so dangerous, and have important roles in their ecosystems which I love to share about.
