Plants & Wildlife

Between April 26 - 29, Boulder OSMP is teaming up with Boulder County and Denver to compete against 170 other cities around the globe in the City Nature Challenge, an international competition to see which city can post the most nature observations through the iNaturalist citizen science platform. Join the fun with naturalist Marcia Weaks on a special nature hike to find and report plants and animals. We’ll take an easy hike towards Boulder Reservoir, skirting Mesa Reservoir in North Boulder. The hike features views of the Flatirons, Bear Peak and Green Mountain as we walk past the lush wetland environment of Mesa Res, which will contrast with the drier plains environment. Raptors and water birds will likely be in abundance, along with snakes, insects and perhaps other small animals. Bring your camera or smartphone with the iNaturalist app loaded and ready to go. Download the free app through Google Play or the App Store and create your iNaturalist account beforehand. Meet at the Boulder Valley Ranch / Sage Trailhead at the end of Longhorn Road, off Hwy 36 just north of Boulder. Follow this link for a map: https://bouldercolorado.gov/osmp/boulder-valley-ranch-trailhead Difficulty: 4.5 miles with a couple hundred feet of elevation gain. Many more City Nature Challenge events are scheduled in the Boulder area!
