The Flatirons serve as the iconic backdrop of Boulder and the centerpiece of Open Space & Mountain Parks. These striking formations have attracted scores of adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts for generations. Join OSMP Recreation Coordinator, Dakota Anderson, to get up close and personal with these majestic slabs of the fountain formation. This strenuous hike (3 miles, 1200 ft elevation gain) will take us to the base of the first 3 flatirons as we explore the history, geology, and culture that encapsulates these Boulder icons. Meet at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage. This time of year brings unpredictable weather, please bring layers appropriate for the weather, at least 1L of water, and proper hiking footwear. Be prepared for uneven challenging terrain. If there is snow/ice, metal traction devices may be needed, OSMP will have extras to borrow.
