Homestead History Hike

 10/10/2020  |  09:00 AM - 01:00 PM

Local History

Join naturalist Debbie Cushman for an adventure back in time and discover the history of the homesteads and their dwellers in the South Boulder foothills area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We will explore the remains of some properties as well as the still standing historic cabins and hear tales of old on our journey, including the tale of the deadly feud between the Dunn and Brammeier families. This is a strenuous 5.5 mile loop with approximately 900 feet of elevation gain starting from the South Mesa Trailhead. Please bring at least 1.5 liters of water and a snack and wear sturdy shoes or boots. We will need to stay at a quick pace to finish our loop! This trailhead is a fee parking area. If you do not have Boulder County license plates on your car, there is a $5 cash fee in exact bills or you can use the Park Mobile App on your phone. NOTE: Due to the Covid-19 virus, we are stressing safety protocols for all hike participants. Group sizes will be limited to 10 people, and you must register beforehand to attend. Participants will also need to complete a brief online training slide show (see below) before registration is allowed. The slide show explains our expectations for social distancing, facial coverings and other important measures to keep you and other participants safe. If you have not yet taken the required “OSMP COVID-19 Safety Protocol for Programs," you will be automatically directed to take that course when you log in to register. Click “Start” to go to the course page and scroll down to click “Start” again to begin the course. It should take about 5 minutes to complete. When you’ve read and clicked through ALL of the course pages using the “Next” button, you will be brought back to the general “Courses” page. Return to this registration web page, and click the Registration link and click “Register” again to be added to the roster.

Minimum Participants: 5
Maximum Participants: 10
