What: Flatirons Loop & Third Flatiron Trail Restoration Project Site: Flatirons Loop & Third Flatiron Climbing Access Trail When: 9a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Tuesday June 30, 2020 Registration Site: Please hike to meet OSMP Trails Staff at the Bluebell Shelter at the top of Bluebell Rd. Parking can be found in the main Chautauqua parking lot or along Baseline Rd. PROJECT Volunteers will be restoring undesignated trails and installing fencing along portions of the Flatirons Loop Trail and Third Flatiron Climbing Access Trail. This project is important to limit the visitor violations that have been occurring in the raptor nesting zone on the Third Flatiron and to keep visitors on trail. PROJECT DIFFICULTY - STRENUOUS There is a 2+ mile, round trip hike to and from the project site. Project will involve hiking over uneven terrain, bending, lifting up to 50lbs, and using general hand tools. Volunteers must be able to carry upwards of 25 lbs of fencing materials for 1+ miles. PREPARATION FOR THE DAY **Two quarts of water or camel packs.** **Snacks & lunch for the day** **Work gloves.** **Face Covering** **Sunglasses or other eye protection ** --Sturdy boots (No lightweight shoes, or “five-finger” types of shoes.) --Long pants. --Rain jacket. --A long sleeved T-shirt. --Personal first aid kit, if you have one (OSMP will have a group first aid kit.) --Backpack to carry personal items. --Hat and sunscreen. --Clothing appropriate for weather conditions. ** Due to the ongoing Coronavirus, OSMP WILL NOT provide personal protective gear, including face coverings (PPE), extra water or food for this event.
